Health Tips from Celebrity Doctor | Feat. Dr. Lipman

I'm Stephanie sigh with everyday health joined today by the doctor to the Stars dr. Frank Lippmann he's worked with celebrities including when is Paltrow and Jake Gyllenhaal and we're so lucky to have him today we combine the best of Eastern and Western medicine to treat your patients so I'm so excited to hear your opinions about some of the health trends we've been hearing about we hear so much these days about detox diets should we all be detox and we need to do this and how often well great question I think on some level most people do need to detox but there's a big misconception about what a detox is the detox really means you're supporting your body's own detoxification systems you're supporting the liver is supporting the gut but a lot of detox is don't do that and a lot of toxicity comes from your body's own processes so really good detox takes care of that so you eliminate all the toxins in the food and the drink that you put into your body but at the same time you're actually adding nutrients to support your body you know the gut to function better and the liver to function better says very important to have those nutrients in the detox does it require not eating now a good detox my detox does not depart it you can still but it's what you don t so you avoid sugar you avoid gluten you avoid dairy avoid alcohol your void caffeine but you can still eat some food so I use shakes which have nutrients that support the detoxification processes and at the same time you have food but the important thing is what you avoid ok that brings me to my next question which is that everyday health we're always trying to help our users decide what to eat and what not to eat ok you have called sugar and gluten the devil foods absolutely I've read the research on sugar it seems like the jury is still out a little bit on gluten why are you so adverse to gluten the research on sugar is much much stronger there isn't that much research yet on gluten but what we're finding out is the gluten of today in particularly wheat of today is a far cry from the wheat of our ancestors it's very different so you eating a modified wheat and that wheat is causing havoc in our body so what we know now is two slices of a whole wheat bread we think we have whole wheat bread for breakfast that's healthy too two slices of whole wheat equivalent of six teaspoons of sugar Wow even if there's no antigen absolutely just the grill it's doing the same thing in your body as a sugar it's also pro-inflammatory it's creating inflammation it's also extremely addictive so that's true that's all right pasta craving comes from absolutely at six gluten is a huge huge problem now most doctors will tell you if you don't have celiac disease gluten is not a problem but what we're seeing more and more than what I've seen my practice every day people have a gluten sensitivity that means they're not necessarily positive for the celiac disease but they still have the sensitivity and the only way even it tell is if you stop eating gluten and I will guarantee that at least I see it all the time at least 80% of people when they stop eating gluten they feel better they lose weight their skin clears up that bloating

disappears they feel completely different so the only way you're going to find out is stop it I don't think anyone should be eating gluten okay what is your view on exercise do we need it how much of it do you need of course we all need exercise how much is once again determined by everyone's different I think what I see a lot of is people over exercise I think as you get older I mean you don't really know it yet but as you get to my age people think they can still do triathlons and run marathons and I think that the body takes a lot of stress doing that so I think we need exercise what we're finding out more and more is shorter intervals are actually better than long Americans but I think exercise moving your body if you can think of it as not exercises just moving your body it's probably better finally I want to give you sort of a chance to do a quick makeover of my own now I work for everyday health so I've always considered that I have a generally pretty healthy diet but I want you to listen to this list of some of my staple foods or tell me what do I need to eliminate and what can I keep red meat soy milk coffee and red wine okay well if you're eating grass fed meat I think it's fine it's the factory farm meat that is poison it's full of antibiotics that's full of steroids is full of chemicals it's really not good the way they treat the animals avoid affected farm meat if you're going to eat meat eat grass fed meat when you when you feed meat corn which is what they give them in the 50 forms it makes them acidotic and it causes all sorts of problems don't eat regular meat eat grass red meat okay so now I'm not a fan of soy do I think it's a devil no I don't think it's a healthy so get it out of your head that soy is a health food a little bit of soil is probably not the end of the world I prefer almond milk coconut milk rice milk but soy milk I I wouldn't use it as I wouldn't think it's healthy put it that way it's not the end of the world but it's definitely not healthy I'm a little bit worried about what you're going to say about my morning coffee well my attitude to coffee is to drug as long as you acknowledge you doing drugs that's fine you're a dragon do you do is it the end of the world if you have a cup of coffee no but stop it for a while and see what happens if you get a headache and you really need your drug then your drug at it so if you have knowledge that you're probably a drug addict and you need your drug that's fine I don't think it's the worst drug in the world but it is a drug red wine look I think most people can tolerate some red wine I don't think that's necessarily unhealthy I think too many people drink too much wine wine is full of sugars if you're trying to cut down on your sugar it's a problem but I don't think couple of loss of a couple of glass of red wine a week is the end of the world but once again if it's affecting your sleep if it's if it's affecting your sugar metabolism then it's a problem so everyone's different you go to adapt accordingly you not that old yet as you get older you have to adjust I'm not that old yet you heard it right here dr. Frank Lippmann judging by how good your clients look I may take some of your advice to heart except for my one drug my coffee but thank you so much it's really nice.
